BRAKE LININGS

Ferodo assists installers with improved technical information when it comes to installation of brake linings, specifically for the applications listed above. Ferodo has developed this specific installation guide to help customers to always correctly fit brake linings to the shoes.

Iveco released a commercial report (No. 1209/I) dated 1996 about irregular wear cases (known as sickle) of some rear brake linings. In order to avoid this problem, Iveco provided a solution of a brake drum having a 15° pressure plate for the primary shoes. This means that currently there are two different sets of linings depending on the brake drum version.

RECAP OF OLD VERSION (UP TO APRIL 1996)

The brake linings of the primary shoe have two blind holes on the bearing side to mount the wear sensors; the other brake linings remained unchanged.

NEW VERSION (FROM MAY 1996)

To ensure a uniform wear of the brake lining at the secondary and primary brake shoes, the supporting angle of the primary shoe has been changed (now 15°, marked on the web). The results are two different brake shoes and three different brake linings per brake.

Reference K19716.0 (correspondent to the old ref K19553.0) is composed by 4 identical linings WVA 19553, these have to be fitted on the secondary shoe. Other 2 linings, identified with marking “P1” have to be fitted on the primary shoes, anchor side. The last 2 linings, identified with marking “P2” must be fitted on the primary shoes wedge side.

Similar situation for reference K19714.0 (correspondent to the old ref K19555.0). It is composed by 4 identical linings WVA 19556, these have to be fitted on the secondary shoe. Other 2 linings, identified with marking “P1” have to be fitted on the primary shoes, anchor side. The last 2 linings, identified with marking “P2” must be fitted on the primary shoes wedge side.

The markings “P1” and “P2” are engraved on the web of the primary shoe of the modified brake, in correspondence of the lining position.
